From back of the photo: "Black Jack and Gang. They were followed from Rawlings to place where picture was taken, about four miles north of Alder, Colorado. They were captured in a deep ravine in the Sangre [de] Christo Range. Black Jack is foreground on left. There is a large reward offered for his capture -- dead or alive. The rest of the party are serving a life sentence in Canon City. #1 Slippery Jim, #2 Black Jack, #3 Whiskey Pete, #4 Lewis Swallow." This was a hunting trip for the men. Swallow was a prankster and liked to pose for pictures such as this. #2 (Black Jack) is Arthur Hutchinson
